roeVy

..born from a witch’s cauldron, roeVy is a DJ / VJ duo from Columbus, Ohio which started in 2008. The group is largely based around a high energy live show that puts as much emphasis on visuals as the music. Visuals are set specific and closely coordinated to the music live. roeVy is currently working on an EP of originals called “The Demons EP”, which will be self released in July. roeVy is actively pursuing booking throughout the world.
The Receiver

You’ll hear bands like Radiohead, Sigur Ros and even Air mentioned when people talk about The Receiver. Those groups may serve as helpful starting points, but know this: The Receiver sounds like The Receiver. The Cooper brothers are a singular creative force. So grab a good pair of headphones and get to know them. Listen to each album as a whole, let them sink in. Soon enough, you’ll be old friends. *Joel Oliphint
JBRW (3/4ths New Bomb Turks)

JBRW (Jackson, Brown, Reber, Weber) is comprised of 3/4ths of Columbus legendary punk heroes, New Bomb Turks, with the addition of Tutti Jackson (Ohio Historical Society, Action Family, Patsy’s). Originally formed to play Gaunt songs at a recent Jerry Wick memorial, the band now draws from dusty garage nuggets, Ohio punk classics, and assorted other amazing songs you’ve never heard. The band (who rarely performs and never does the same set twice) resuscitates the best of the best from the garage underground for an unforgettable live throw-down.
21 pilots

who: twenty one pilots has decided to manifest itself as two guys.
what: twenty one pilots is a band that does not want to be heard; they want to be listened to.
why: basically, we are all responsible for the preservation of our personal joy; but happiness is different. joy is not circumstantial, happiness is
how: recording songs at our house and giving everything we have at shows. we are not good enough at our instruments to stand up there and have you watch. since we will ask you to be involved at these shows, we will work to gain your respect and trust for the first half of the set; the second half is governed by the whole room.

Necropolis

Five-piece Necropolis has, by now, arrived at something of an elder statesmen (and woman) status in Columbus. Though its members all now active in other groups (Unholy Two, Ipps, Dan Melchior), and two of its members run the internationally respected Columbus Discount Records, the band’s brand of no-wavey honk, overdriven, jittery punk, and pounding rhythm have always set apart from the pack. Their appearance today is a rare chance to hear the sound of several decades of Ohio punk/indie/noise reconstituted into something wholly unique.
Clay

Clay was one of the more revered bands out of the 90s indie scene in Columbus, combining surreal stage antics, smart English art-punk, and buzzsaw guitars into a heady, sometimes maniacal honk. While its members have gone on to other pursuits (most notably Wil Foster in the Guinea Worms) Clay, who released many 7”-inch singles on various Columbus labels, hold a special place in the pantheon of Columbus rock.

Nathan Snell And The Country Sound

Versatile singer/songwriter Nathan Snell (also of Anna Ranger fame) takes a detour South with the Country Sound to perform spot-on vintage country gems, sans irony. Standards from long-ago crooners like Webb Pierce, Jim Reeves, George Jones, and Hank Snow are given the loving treatment by a sharp quartet that also features Aaron Klamut (bass guitar), Sven Kahn (slide guitar) and Nathan Ward (snare drum).
Sundown (TK Webb)

Sundown is the new project from former NYC, now Columbus-based, singer-songwriter T.K. Webb. Webb relocated to Columbus in 2010 after a string of critically acclaimed records on The Social Registry label, exploring the hazy boundaries of psychedelia, blues, and junkyard Americana. Rolling Stone said of his 2006 Phantom Parade: “It channels old-school sources with more brains than nostalgia.”Sundown, which features a member of Columbus’ Moon High, channels more of a “Crazy Horse or CCR-ish” vibe and marks the next step in Webb’s evolution.
Ipps

Ipps is Bo, Emily, Matt, Mike, and Jerry.
Wing And Tusk

Wing & Tusk formed in the autumn of 2006, and since then has been conjuring thoughtful, intricate, folk-inspired rock songs, which culminated in a full length album in the summer of 2009 called “The Secret of Toadflax Tea.” The album tells the story of two monks and a physician during the black plague, who become the stewards of the only known cure. The tale is spun over harmony-filled, painstakingly orchestrated chamber pop, and using lyrics that serve as the thoughts or speech of the three characters, examines themes of human selfishness, religion, passion, and self-sacrifice. The album is available on iTunes.
Look for them playing around Columbus, and keep an eye out for their EP, “Here Be Monsters,” coming soon!
Ride To Ruin

George Elliot Underground

The George Elliot Underground is made from fragments of bands broken by time, space and even a fire. But when these five musicians moved into an off-campus house together in 2005, there was no stopping the music that erupted from their basement in late night, alcohol-infused jam sessions. Over the years, the band’s sound matured into a cohesive revival of classic rock with “more electricity than AEP can handle.” (Ben Albaugh)
Old Hundred

Columbus, OH-based Old Hundred is Blake Skidmore, Nate Gelinas, Jon Helm, and Hal Hixson. Blending gritty harmonies, jangling hooks, and pounding rhythms, Old Hundred creates songs that are both authentic and inspired.
Birds of Hair

The funny thing is, that I (Jen) put the band, Birds of Hair, together. Me, the one who is the least experienced and just really wanted an excuse to hang out with these amazing ladies. We would just jam in the basement, and we realized we had sometihing good. We formed in 2007 and have written 7 songs. We love Joy Division, Butthole Surfers, and the 90s. We only play about 2 shows a year. Sarah has played with Flotation Walls, The Check Out, El Jesus de Magico. Marcy (you know her resume). I have mostly played noise and electronics in Face Place, American Jobs. We mostly sit in my backyard, naming the squirrels, and eating pizza.
Bum Wealthy

How does one sum up the all-encompassing sound of Bum Wealthy, Columbus Ohio’s most anomalous, genre-juggling musical shapeshifters? They can lead an eager crowd through a rabble-rousing rock ‘n’ roll number & then in a blink of an eye, beatbatter their ears with some bone-shaking bluegrass, only to flip the script on them again moments later with a feast of funk. They’re no strangers to the blues or jazz, and swing is definitely their thing. Ska is no faux pas, they’ve got a little punk in their trunk, some metal in their kettle, and have been known to tropically testify with dubstyle & roots reggae
Mt. Carmel

The trio of Matthew Reed, Patrick Reed and Kevin Shubak–heretofore known as Mount Carmel—is a straight-up blues rock power trio. And by straight-up we mean sans revisionist three-dollar currency, Sub Pop grunge hybridization or ironic posturing. These guys have been weened on a diet almost steadfastly consisting of British blues/rock innovators: Peter Green-era Bluesbreakers, Cream and Ten Years After are immediately recognizable in their sound (in fact, the latter’s “Hear Me Calling” is covered on here). This isn’t a lark or something these guys are doing between noise projects–it’s their life. Good, old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll, plain and simple. Some folks never made time for punk, just like you’ve always snubbed your nose at the drum solo. Hard to believe, right? But just because you didn’t live through it the first time doesn’t mean you’re not doomed to repeat it. The piquancy of ’70s-era redbud fusing with the aroma of banana- (or strawberry-) scented paper burning and hanging in the air, the sweet cascade of Ripple hitting the back of your throat, the blurry exotica of Rorer’s ubiquitous 714… it’s all here, undeniably, unpretentiously and unwittingly realized. In fact, their sound is so genuine, you’ll swear you were dead! Or at the very least unborn. Dig it. – Siltbreeze Records
The Main Street Gospel

The Main Street Gospel is a Columbus, Ohio based band who mix psych-infused classic rock with dusty country vibes and dirt-stained blues. The band was born in 2005, when Barry Dean–former tambourine shaker for the Brian Jonestown Massacre–began writing songs with longtime friend Ryan Ida. Together with Evangelos Arakas on guitar and Christian Pierce on drums the band has a strong sense of understanding and respect for the true roots of rock n’ roll. Their sound recalls elements of folk giants CSNY and Neil Young, while at the same time retaining the modern aesthetics of revivalists like Spacemen 3 and The Black Crowes.
She Bears

Phillip Fox Band

“…Raw, hard-hitting, untainted… blend of American folk, rock, bluegrass, and country. [Phillip Fox] delivers lyrically intense, personal, experience-driven songs that instantly connect.” - FolkWords, UK
Bird and Flower

Bird and Flower is Eve Searls.
She grew up in Juneau, Alaska with the bears and salmon and then moved to Columbus, Ohio where she is a lawyer for poor people, among other things. She has two cats, of course, and she sounds like Iris Dement if Iris Dement was on K Records. Here We Cease Our Motion, is her first album. She recorded it by herself in her apartment, playing almost all the instruments: guitar, ukulele, banjo, keyboards, lots of singing, sound effects. As Bird and Flower likes to say when she’s feeling saucy, “It’s okay to be sad when you’re having fun. It’s okay to have fun while you’re being sad.” That might sound like a commercial for a self-help Reese’s cup (”Your bird’s in my flower!”, etc.), but her voice and songs will take you there. (Sunken Treasure Records site)
G finesse and the NS

G. Finesse and the NS mix hip hop and soul into a fully captivating musical expression that satisfies a wide palette of taste. Conceived in 2009 by guitarist Brian Harrington, MC Tony “G. Finesse” Haslett, and bassist Benjamin Johnson, G. Finesse and the Neighborhood Selection has become one of the hardest working bands in Columbus, OH. The band is in the studio, capturing their live experience into their first album.
Trains Across The Sea

Trains Across the Sea is fueled by coffee, optimism, and fundamental folk ideals
Since he was in fourth grade Andy set out to prove that music is a universal love that can show us everything we have in common. His goals don’t include Lamborghinis or world domination — he just wants to play and record as much as possible. He named the band after a song from The Silver Jews’ first album and draws inspiration from They Might Be Giants, current events, and traveling.*Alexandra Kelley
Swimsuit Edition
